Overview

South Annapurna Khayar Holy Lake is one among the different attractions of Annapurna region with awe-inspiring and tranquil lake.  However, the region is not known popularly known yet and its path has been rarely trodden. It is one of the secluded places veiled behind the gigantic of Annapurna ranges. And, the trek offers the mesmerizing views which enthrall you. Beside the scenic view of the peaks, you can get the warm welcome of the Gurung people along the way.


With the incredible pattern of rising and falling edges, the region also has distinctive and embraces various species of blossoming flowers particularly throughout spring season. The entire trekking path is mainly overlooked by the vivid rhododendron forests.

With the belief that the wishes will come true after one visit the lake, people get together in the Khayare Holy Lake. Also, they have faith that if an individual touches the water of the lake s/he will get salvation after demise. Besides, the married sterile women travel to the lake to wish for the fertility of their wombs.

Best season

The best season to go for South Annapurna Khayare Holy Lake trek is October and November though it can be preferred throughout the year. Spring is also good choice because of warmer temperatures. And moreover, you can witness blossoming rhododendrons.

Itinerary

Days 1: Kathmandu Arrival (1300m)

Upon your arrival in Kathmandu, you will be welcomed by our representative at Kathmandu International airport and then you will be transferred to hotel. You can relax for the rest of the day and in the evening you can enjoy dinner with Nepali cultural dance. Overnight at hotel.

Days 2: Kathmandu Sightseeing

Today, you will be go around different world heritage sites in Kathmandu valley; the sacred temple of Hindu, Pashupati Nath; the world’s biggest Stupa, Boudhhanath; Swoyambhunath Stupa  which is also known as the monkey temple; and historical Kathmandu Durbar Square where you will also visit Kumari broadly known as Living Goddess in Basantapur, Kathmandu. You will also go around Patan Durbar Square which is rich in historical art and architecture. Overnight at hotel again.

Day 03: Drive to Phedi Trek to Potana (2010m.)

Today we will take a flight from Kathmandunternational Airport to reach Pokhara. During the air travel you will see the most wonderful and amazing views of gigantic Himalayan range. And in Pokhara, you will be mesmerized by the appealing views of the Annapurna and Machhapuchre mountain range. After that you will be take a bus to reach Phedi  and trek to Potana, a pleasant Gurung Village taking around 4 hours. Overnight in Pothana

Day 04: Trek to Landruk (1646m.)

Mesmerized with the stunning sunrise views over massive peaks, we will follow the track to Deurali. The trail passes all the way through a chain of Gurung villages. Then we will finally arrive at a charming Gurung settlement, Landrung.  Overnight at a lodge in Landruk.

Day 05: Trek to Chomrong (1951m.)

Today you will trek to Chhomrong, one more Gurung village. It is situated at an elevation of 1951m. Overnight at lodge in Chhomrong.

Day 06: Trek to Tadapani (2531m.)

The trail will pass via the terraced meadows, forests and slopes. You as a final point today reach Tadapani, a perfect point to have a glimpse of the amazing Annapurna South, Himchuli and Machhapuchhre. Overnight at lodge in Tadapani.

Day 07: Trek to Dobate (3420m.)

We will depart from the main track that leads to Ghorepani and go after the trail all the way through a dense rhododendron forest. Upon our arrival in Dobate we set our camp to stay overnight.

Day 08: Trek to Chistibung (3000m.)

Today our trail moves down through an open ground and woods to reach meadows at lower Chistibung that lies at a height of 3000m. Chistibung is a lunch spot and we climb through rhododendron woods with dwarf trees to arrive at our camp at Chistibung. Overnight at the tented camp in Chistibung.

Day 09: Trek to Khopra Ridge (3810m.)

The trail gradually ascends to Khopra edge. The vegetation gradually changes to alpine with fewer trees. This region is renowned for Danphe pheasant and Himalayan Thar. The Yaks seldom found grazing in the pasture around it. The eye-catching peak views leaves you enthralled. The mountains that appear in front of us are Dhaulagiri, Annpurna Fang, Tukuche Peak, Annapurna South, Nilgiri and several other stunning mountains.

Day 10: Trek to Khayar Holy Lake (4200m.)

With a gradual ascend up to the High Camp, a flat portion of land and taking vertical way up will lead us to the holy lake, Khayar and more than a few holy shrines where number of Hindu pilgrims visit yearly to pay honor during the month of Bhadra specially during Janai Purnima Festival that actually falls in August or September. Overnight at the tented camp .

Day 11: Trek to back Khopra (3810m.)

Today after going around the stunning Khayar lake, we will get back to Khopra Ridge. And we will set our camp for overnight.

Day 12: Trek to Pakdor Big and thik village (2355m.)

Today's trek is mostly through the oak and rhododendron forest. The trail moves down to Pakdor Big and Thik village with the incredible views of Dhaulagiri. Overnight at camp or lodge.

Day 13: Trek to Tatopani (1190m.)

Today we will depart from Thik Village and trek to Tatopani. The track gradually falls down and reach to Tatopani. Overnight at lodge or camp in Tatopani.

Day 14: Trek to Chitre (2391m.)

Today your walk gains the elevation and you arrive at Chitre. Here the track links with the old Tibetan way.  Overnight at lodge or camp in Chitre.

Day 15: Trek to Ghorepani (2800m.)

Today we will trek to Ghorepani where we can notice the vista of Annapurna South. Climbing further up, we go into a wooded area filled. Further ahead from Banthanti we can perceive the vegetation widening. Then, up at a narrow vale, we got to go up more stairs till we arrive at Nangathanti (2,520m). From here with another one hour climb, we will arrive at Ghorepani. Overnight in Ghorepani.

Day 16: Trek to Poon Hill (3210m.) Back to Camp site and Trek to Hille (1577m.)

On this day, we go to Poon Hill to observe arresting sunrise view over the Annapurna Range and Dhaulagiri.  After that we return back to our hotel and proceed through the trail that takes us to the north side along the edging line with magnificent views of the Annapurna widening from east to west. We walk next to the woody crest for a while and we after that come down after passing a small settlement before going into a dense forested ravine. Then you go to Hille for setting the camp for overnight.

Day 17: Trek to Nayapul Drive to Pokhara (920m.)

This day you take a long drop through wonderful oak and rhododendron forests to reach Ulleri then move vertical down to Bhurungdi River valley and at last trek through Tirkhedunga leading to Birethati. Moving downward to Nayapul  all the way through the cultivated fields in Modi River valley taking about 4 hours, we will drive back to Pokhara in about one hour. Overnight at hotel in Pokhara.

Day 18: Pokhara to Kathmandu

Today early in the morning, we will drive to the tourist bus station. The bus departs from Pokhara in the morning to Kathmandu. Arriving in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to the hotel. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 19: Final Departure

You will drive to airport by our representative and take the flight to reach your destination from Kathmandu.
